日本でも昨今ブームとなっているミニチュアの世界やドールハウスでは、その精巧さを追求したり、よりリアルな日常の生活風景を再現したり、はたまた空想の世界を作り上げたり、あらゆる表現方法が追求されています。今回《はこにわ/箱根ドールハウス美術館》では、ミニチュア・ドールハウスの新しい表現のあり方を展開。RIO UMEZAWAによる、Assemblage（アッサンブラージュ）という手法で築かれた箱の中の芸術を展観します。

アッサンブラージュとは、仏語で「寄せ集め」「組み（継ぎ）合わせること」を意味します。この手法は1950 年代にフランスのジャン・デュビュッフェによって、それまでのキュビスムやダダイスムの作家たちが多用していたコラージュ（あらゆるメディア・要素を貼り合わせたもの）の手法と区別するために、用いられました。植物や日用品などを画面に貼り付け、現実の自然に意識を置いた作品は見る者を異空間に誘います。

今回展示する作品には、画家でもある RIO UMEZAWA の小さな作品（タブロー、版画など）と自身が買い集めたフレンチアンティークが組み合わさっており、全ての箱は家具屋へ依頼しエイジング加工を施したオリジナル。アメリカの（芸術高校）美術大学で学び、フランス、シンガポール、香港など、世界でも活躍する同氏が目にしてきた、日常を取り巻く品々を小さな箱の世界に具現化した作品（光景）は、限定的であると同時に、小さなミクロコスモス（小宇宙）のように、私たちの意識を広げてくれることでしょう。

RIO UMEZAWA プロフィール

3歳より地元三重県の画家・大浦峰郎氏のもとで水彩画、工作、油彩を学び次第に画家を志す。1989年、本格的に絵画を学ぶ為、中学卒業後15 歳で単身渡米。アメリカの芸術高校、美術大学を経て帰国。1998 年、音楽、映画好きが高じ、ラジオDJ としてデビュー。関西を中心に名古屋、全国ネットなどのレギュラー番組を担当。現在も東京でラジオDJ、MC、ナレーター、朗読家としても活動を続けている。2000 年より関西で作品の展示を始め、2014 年には関西から東京へ拠点を移し同年「N.Y.インターナショナルアートフェスティバル」ファイナリストとして選出アメリカNY チェルシーのギャラリーにて展示。

東京都内を中心に国内での個展、グループ展などをはじめ、フランス・パリでの企画展に出展。シンガポール、韓国、台湾、香港などのアートフェアなどにも毎年出展を続ける。その他、アパレルブランドとのコラボレーションやCD ジャケットなど幅広い商品デザインにも起用されデザインの分野でも活動している。2023 年よりオンラインアートレッスンを開講。2024 年4 月、神保町にアート＆カルチャーサロンPlace of Artrio（アトリオ）を友人とオープン。子供から大人まで幅広くアートレッスンを行なっている。公式ウェブサイト

RIO UMEZAWA Biography

In 1974, RIO was born in the city of Tsu in Mie Prefecture. With her father’s love for art, she started studying painting and handicraft from the local artist, Minerou Oura at the age of three. This experience made her aspire to become an artist someday.

After graduating from middle school in 1989, RIO relocated to the United Sates to attend art high school and college. However, upon her return to Japan soon after her college graduation, her talent with voice work was discovered and she made a sudden debut as a radio DJ.

In 1998, after few auditions and with her love of music, RIO became a voice of FM Osaka, ZIP-FM (Nagoya) and nationwide radio network JFN. Since then, her schedule kept getting busier and busier with more TV appearances, event MC slots and various narration works. As her voice job became more successful, the time left to hold her paint brushes became less. She was only able to hold an exhibit every few years which definitely wasn’t enough.

RIO had to a decision to make. Will it be her childhood dream of becoming an artist or a career as a successful DJ? After many sleepless nights, as she entered her 40’s in 2014, she went all in for the artist career and left her radio programs to relocate to Tokyo.

Since then, RIO’s colorful and delicate works have been recognized around the world, including the finalist exhibit at International Art Festival in New York. Today, RIO UMEZAWA continues to hold numerous solo exhibits while participating at various art festivals and group exhibits all over the world.
